Pershore
10 - 32 Camp Hill
Pershore
2nds faced higher ranked opposition on Saturday when Camp
Hill made the trip down from Birmingham. Pershore were able
to field a strong side with prop Damien May and flanker
Steve Strong both starting.
Pershore
did well in the scrum but seemed to suffer in the lineout,
struggling to win their own ball. Both of Pershores tries
came from former Dudley Kingswinford man Steve Strong, but
this proved too little against Camp Hill who came out winners
32-10. Pershore vice-captain Rob Matthews said after the
game “this was a much improved performance from Pershore
which surprised Camp Hill. We could have scored more but
at times we just did not have the rub of the green”.
Next
week sees Pershore 2nds travel to Stourbridge for a Merit
League fixture.

Hereford 72 - 0 Pershore
Pershore’s
second string endured a torrid afternoon away at Hereford,
travelling with only 14 players. Credit must go to all of

with a conversion added from Rob Matthews.

Pershore 12 - 33 Droitwich
Pershore’s second team came down to
earth with a bump in a tough encounter at Droitwich. After
scoring 150 points in their first three games they came
into the match full of confidence but found themselves up
against a big Droitwich side who used their superior size
to good effect.
Pershore found it difficult to hold onto ball and some sloppy
handling in the backs meant that the little ball they did
win was wasted.
Despite this the defence in the first half was excellent
with some big tackling sending the home side back. Even
though Pershore only managed to get out of their half on
rare occasions they managed to restrict Droitwich to just
2 tries to leave them 12-0 down at half time.
The second half looked like it was going to take on a different
complexion as Pershore attacked from the whistle. The forwards
began to turn ball over and after a scrappy period of play
outside half Dave Snell put a good kick to the corner that
the Droitwich winger managed to scramble into touch. As
he lay on the floor and the rest of the Droitwich side ambled
back, Pershore winger Phil Sheppard took a quick throw in
to Snell who strolled in unopposed. He converted his own
try and suddenly Pershore looked threatening at only 12-7
down.
Pershore continued to dominate play and were unlucky not
to level the scores soon after. Then came the killer blow.
As the Pershore forwards drove the ball on into the Droitwich
half the home sides number 8 managed to rip the ball away
and with some missed tackles helping his cause went in for
what proved to be a demoralizing blow for the away team.
Heads dropped in the Pershore side as they felt the game
had got away from them. Droitwich scored two more quick
tries through their forwards as Pershore struggled to get
their game back on track. They did manage the last word
when some good handling skills from prop Carl Evans put
centre Craig in for the final score of the game.

Pershore 91 - 0 Ludlow
Ludlow were faced with a long and depressing
journey home on Saturday evening as Pershore's second team
ran riot in a 15 try fest at Piddle Park. Despite the damp
conditions some excellent handling and running by forwards
and backs alike gave the crowd something to cheer, if only
for 50 minutes.
The writing was on the wall almost immediately as Pershore
went 33-0 up in the first ten minutes with 5 excellent tries.
Dave Snell led the way on the wing notching up a hat-trick
of tries within 8 minutes and also supplying Ben Pullen
with one. Captain Oli Heydon was the other scorer after
a searing break put him through. Ludlow had no answer to
the awesome rucking from the Pershore forwards and the pace
and incisiveness of the back line. The referee called the
half short after 30 minutes but not before further tries
had been added from Phil Sheppherd, Phil Smith and Fudgey
out on the wing to leave Pershore 48-0 up.
Ludlow showed good spirit at the start of the second half
and began to gain some more possession and some ill discipline
in the Pershore ranks almost gave them a score. Unfortunately
for them Pershores defence was also up to the job and eventually
they regained their stranglehold on the game. Ludlows heads
dropped and Pershore began to score tries at will. Pullen
and Fudge added a second to their tally and skipper Heydon
matched Snell's effort with a hat-trick of his own. Further
tries came from Phil Williams, Alex Jamal, and Andy Baker
who just managed to crawl over the line.
Snell slotted 8 conversions to take his tally to 31 points
and Ludlow were thankful for the referee's whistle which
came after just 20 minutes of the second half, with only
50 minutes played in total.
