Double Away Wins for PERSHORE’S Women and Men XVs

Ben Andrews10 Mar - 09:00

On Saturday 8 March, both the Phoenix Women, and the Men’s 1st XV teams from Pershore Rugby had away wins.

On Saturday 8 March, both the Phoenix Women, and the Men’s 1st XV teams from Pershore Rugby had away wins. The men played Dudley Kingswinford, winning 21-27 and the women were victors against Cheltenham Civil Service 28-31.

In clear sunny conditions it was the Phoenix captain, Nicola Hope’s 25th cap and she made her mark playing in the backs and scoring two tries and rallying the whole team, who put in some huge clear outs and fantastic tackles and ball handling against CCS.

For Pershore Men’s 1st XV it was one of their strongest team performances of the season against formidable opponents. Two early tries came from Damo May and Cameron Wood from Pershore, who dominated the scrum, while the centre pairing of Josh Hardiman and Greg Hitchcock created gaps in the opposition defence, with Hardiman crashing over for the third Pershore try and a lead of 15 points at half time. Wood quickly scored his second try. Brian Ranns and Ben Sykes disrupted the Dudley Kingswinford opposition at the breakdown, providing quality ball for fly half Tommy Hayes to distribute. Pershore's outstanding support play and ball retention ensured their continued dominance.
Dudley Kingswinford fought back, scoring three converted tries, but Ben Crouch made a try-saving tackle before Pershore’s Martin Hope sprinted down the touchline and passed inside to Todd Charlton, who scored and then converted the final try of the game.
Pershore Women’s Phoenix XV, play again at home on Sunday 23 March. The Men’s 1st XV will play Worcester 2nds at home on Saturday 22 March. Supporters welcome.
