With the conditions worsening as the game went on, both teams were keen to still play an expansive game, with the home teams big runners pitted against the smaller but quicker visitors. Upton had the early advantage, barging over for three early scores, with the Pershore defence
breached after some good defending. The visitors were not to be outdone though, spreading the ball around the park and using their superior pace out wide, with Stef Staveley and Matt Harwood scoring tries to get Pershore right back in the game, 19-12 at the interval.
The second period followed a similar pattern to the first, the home team scoring tries first and extending their lead, but scores from Dave Snell (2), Rob Haines and AJ Hanson brought Pershore to within touching distance of victory. Snell concerted three, to put the scores 40 – 38 going into the final minutes, with the visitors spirits up. Pershore pushed hard for the victory, once again spreading the play away from the big Upton pack, only for the last pass to go astray and Upton seized the opportunity to race away and seal victory with a converted score.
