Pershore Socials, not to be outdone by their 1st XV, put in a stellar performance against much higher ranked opposition, at Piddle Park on Saturday.
Destructive running from Steve Holmes and Jacob Smith, put the home team on the front foot and tries from Matt Harwood and Holmes got Pershore on their way. The mercurial Dave Snell and ever illusive Rob Haines caused problem for the visitors all afternoon, with Gav Roberts and Brian Bennett rock solid at scrum time and but for some last effort passes going astray, the Piddle Park men would have lead at the interval.
With the home fans daring to believe an upset was on the cards, Pershore put in a monster defensive effort after the break, keeping their higher rated opponents at bay for swathes of the second period. Holmes and Stef Staveley lead the tackle count, with the latter putting in a man of the match performance, only for late injuries to rob Pershore of the victory, with Woodrush 2's sneaking it at the death 66-10
