The first weekend of November arrived and with it came a return to normal rugby weather. The U7’s visit to Alcester was accompanied by torrential rain for much of the morning. This didn’t dampen the spirit of the 10 little men representing Pershore RFC. They were buoyed up by their performance at both Worcester and Droitwich and starting to look like a group that have actually met before. Both clubs split into two teams and played a total of 6 games.
Pershore Orange started strongly with good play from Rowan Thomas and William Bishop scoring 1 and 3 respectively and some excellent defence and supporting play from Carter Adey. leaving Pershore just ahead 3 – 4 at the break.
Pershore continued well and looked to take the game but for two individual runs from Alcester. Final score 7 - 7. William Bishop crossing a further 3 times for Pershore.
Pershore Blue met a fired up Alcester side in their first encounter but gave no quarter, matching them point for point. At half time scores were even at 3 each Nelson Amphlett, Archie Beard, and Charlie Smith with 1 each. The second half was played in a similar vein and in spite of some strong defence and good tagging from James Barnet, Pershore were unable to break the deadlock. Final score 6 - 6. Archie crossing again and Jack Bulbulia opening his account with 2.
Opponents were exchanged and both Pershore teams were determined to achieve victories. Pershore Orange raised the defensive effort and worked well as a unit making excellent tags to force turnovers. At half time honours were still even at 4 each. The second half saw all the effort pay off and Pershore slowly moved ahead finishing the game 6 – 9 victors. Rowan leading the scores with 5, William 3 and Carter 1.
Pershore Blue were seen practicing the ‘fishing line’ during the break. The extra defensive coaching paid off, half time 2 each full time victors at 4 – 5. Scores from Jack 3, Archie 1 and Nelson 1.
Both Pershore teams improved throughout the morning increasing in confidence and team spirit.
The boys were keen to play some more, so the teams were mixed and a further pair of games played both finishing in a draw. A good mornings rugby was nicely capped of with hot dogs and a warm up in the clubhouse.
